Easter Holiday Activity Ideas
Easter Holiday Activity Ideas
We don’t expect the children to be working over the school holiday but have put together this page to give you some ideas of fun things to help keep busy over the break.
For any parents looking for more structured work, you will find some Maths & English activities for each year group if you scroll to the very bottom of the page. These holiday challenges are entirely optional and we are not expecting all children to complete them.
Scavenger Hunts: A simple way to set up scavenger hunt is to give the children a word (e.g. EASTER) and challenge them to be the first to find something begins with each letter. See the photos or search online for more ideas. You could also get siblings to create their own scavenger hunts for each other to do.
Purple for Lent: Purple is the special colour used in church for Lent. It is the colour the church uses for ‘getting ready’ to remember what happened to Jesus. Make a list of as many purple things as you can. Who can come up with the longest list? Could you write an acrostic poem for the colour purple (a poem where the first letter of each line spells out the word)? Draw a picture and colour it in different shades of purple.
Listen to a Story: Audible with Amazon have launched a free service while the schools are shut that can be downloaded onto a desktop, phone or tablet, with lots of free audio books for children to listen to.
Draw: Children’s Author, Rob Biddulph, has created lots of draw along tutorials for you to have a go at - Draw with Rob. Alternatively, why not just grab a piece of paper head outside or stick on some music and be inspired! We’d love to see your creations - so please take photos for our next virtual sharing assembly.
Go on a Virtual Trip: Lots of zoos and museums are doing online virtual tours. Here are just a few:
- San Diego Zoo live cams and pre-recorded videos
- Jorvik Viking Centre: discover from home
- Smithsonian Museum of Natural History: you can virtually walk around the whole museum with this 360◦ 3D Tour
- NASA: Take a virtual tour of the Langley Research Centre, download the Houston Space Centre app for some augmented reality experiences, or access the cameras on the Curiosity Rover on Mars.
- Edinburgh Castle: explore the castle here
- Harry Potter World: The Harry Potter Home Hub brings wizarding to you!
Things to Make:
An Easter Bonnet: This can be as simple or as egg-stravagant as you like! Keep an eye on our facebook page as we will set up an Easter bonnet parade for you to post your pictures in.
Playdough: see recipe below
Easter Nest Cakes: see recipe below
Easter Cards
A wordsearch using Easter themed words
Easter Egg Hunt: Can you draw and cut out 12 Easter egg shapes, then decorate them? Now ask someone else to hide them around the house/in the garden for you. Can you find them all? Time how long it takes to find them. How many minutes and how many seconds did it take? Ask someone to hide them again, and time you to find them, can you find them in a quicker time?
Design a Postcard: Why not create your own postcards to send to people you can’t see at the moment? Here are some examples of positive postcards to inspire you.
Board Games: There are so many great skills developed when we play board games, but have you ever tried to design and make one of your own?
Paintings for NHS Nightingale Hospital: Children have been asked to create artwork with rainbows and positive messages to decorate hospitals. It appears that some of the information about this online may be fake, including addresses to post the pictures too. However, the NHS are welcoming people sharing them online, using #RainbowsForNightingale or they can be used to decorate your own homes.
Playdough Recipe
You will need:
8 tbsp plain flour
2 tbsp table salt
60ml warm water

Easter Holiday Homework Challenges
Below you will find short activities (each should only take 10 minutes) for each week day of the school holiday. They are designed to keep your Maths, Reading & English skills ticking over during the break. These challenges are completely OPTIONAL. Please do not feel under any pressure to complete them. We simply wanted to provide something for those parents and children who like a bit more structured homework. If you want to have a go, great! If not, that’s okay too.
