Why Outdoor Learning?

At Churchside we pride ourselves on our Curriculum offer. We endeavour to provide children with a broad and balanced curriculum that allows everyone to flourish. Developing our outdoor curriculum is another way in ensuring that we are giving children access to enriched learning experiences. Taking the curriculum outdoors can have a considerably beneficial impact on the learning and development of our pupils. From enhancing problems solving skills to communication and resilience, outdoor learning provides endless opportunities for exploration, experimentation and contextual learning. It is a well-known fact that being outdoors in nature holds huge benefits for our mental health and well-being. Giving children the opportunity to take their lessons outside takes advantage of these benefits and allows children to access their learning using natural resources through purposeful, hands on activities. Outdoor learning allows children to work on national curriculum objectives in a low threat, high reward environment.
