Tuesday 14th July 2020 Elm Class learning

Spellings: This week, I would like you to revisit spellings with the spelling string ‘ough’. These spellings can be very tricky and there isn’t a specific rule for spelling these words! Can you practice the words you found yesterday using the look, write, cover, check method?

Arithmetic: This week, I would like you to practice your long multiplication skills. Remember, when you are multiplying by a 10, you should always start with a zero in your column as a place value holder. Can you have a go at the questions below?

465 x 67=

876 x 32=

2265 x 54 =

Grammar:  Now you have had some practice of using apostrophes, can you have a go at the activity linked to this post? Can you find the correct sentences? Can you explain why the others are not correct? How has the apostrophe been used incorrectly or not at all?

English: Have a look at the suggested transition activities below. These are a great way to reflect on the year and think about the new class you are going into. Which activity will you try today? If you would like to finish reading Holes, I will keep the PDF on the class webpage for you to finish the book and find out what happens!

Maths: Today we are looking at converting units of time. Can you have a go at the activity below? I have included a table of key conversions of time to help you!

Topic: Round up research!

Over the next two days, I would like you to think about all of the amazing things you have learnt about Mexico! What have you enjoyed finding out about most? What would you like to find out more about? You may have found the Geography of Mexico particularly interesting for example, and may like to focus your research more specifically on a town or city of Mexico, or look more into the landmarks of Mexico! You may like to find out more about the tourist attractions and the holiday destinations of Mexico!

Your task is to present your round up research in an eye-catching way of your choice. This could be:

–      A tourist leaflet

–      A power point presentation

–      A lapbook – a bit like a leaflet, but with different pockets of information and pictures, to open and explore!

–      A mini brochure

–      A poster

–      Your own quiz questions and answers on Mexico!

–      Pretend you are hosting a tv programme on Mexico, can you write the script of what you might say?

You can send these to me on Tuesday or Wednesday, I would love to see the finished outcome!

Well done for all of your continued hard work!

Miss Coates.

Great home learning!

Phoebe has worked super hard on her lighthouse newspaper report from home. Take a look if you would like to see some excellent reporting!

Cedar class learning for 14 JUL 2020

English: LO: to write a newspaper article.

For today’s task I would like you to use your news article skills we practised a couple of weeks ago to create an article about your biggest achievement from last year (the school year you are now finishing). What do you think your biggest achievement was? Why is this something you are particularly proud of? Did you celebrate this achievement or win an award/prize? Draw an illustration to go with your news article, and don’t forget to give the article a catchy headline!

Maths: LO: to order dates.

Today I would like you to look at ordering dates. Below are two worksheet activities for you to complete in your books. Challenge 1 has days and months to order, whilst challenge 2 has days, months and years in the dates which need ordering.

Challenge 1

Challenge 2

Skylarks suggested learning Monday 13th July

Maths – To write times as analogue, digital and in words.

English – Choose a writing activity to reflect on your year or help you think about what you are looking forward to or want to know about next year.

Afternoon – These are your last few days to round up your Mexico research. You could create a PowerPoint presentation or video on what you have learned, or find out some more about something that particularly interested you.

Oak Class Monday 13th July

I hope you have all enjoyed the lovely weather this weekend! We have some fun things to do this week including a sports day, round up about Mexico and thinking about things that we are good at!

Phonics: Use the letters l and p to make the end blend of lp. Make the words help, yelp, kelp. Say the words, sound them out, write them down and read them out. Now use the words in a sentence. Use your neatest handwriting to write the sentence down.

Maths: This week we are thinking about time. We have worked hard during our Maths Meetings this year to tell the time, so today, could you have a go at making your own clock and use it to tell the time. Work on o’clock and half past today, just to remind yourself!

Literacy: Can you draw a picture of yourself. What do you look like? Add your name to the picture. You could send this to Miss Gannon so she will know what you look like!

Topic: Mexico. Over the next few days, I would like you to look back over all the things you have made, painted, written and found out about Mexico. You could make a poster, a leaflet or brochure about Mexico and bring it to school in September. It would be great to see what you have been learning about!

Have a great day Oak Class!

Monday 13th July 2020 Elm Class learning

Welcome to our last full week of the term! Hope you have all enjoyed some of the sunshine this weekend and are ready for an exciting week ahead! This week, we will be doing some transition activities, to help us reflect on our year and prepare for our new class or school in September.

Spellings: This week, I would like you to revisit spellings with the spelling string ‘ough’. These spellings can be very tricky and there isn’t a specific rule for spelling these words! Can you find as many ough words and write these down? Can you group your words into different sounds as you may find the ‘ough’ spelling, isn’t always pronounced in the same way in different words!

Arithmetic: This week, I would like you to practice your long multiplication skills. Remember, when you are multiplying by a 10, you should always start with a zero in your column as a place value holder. Can you have a go at the questions below?

836 x 27 =

3468 x 62 =

436 x 22=

Grammar:  We often forget to use apostrophes for possession in our writing. These help the reader to show that something belongs to someone else. Can you have a go at the activity below, inserting the apostrophes in the correct places?

English: Have a look at the suggested transition activities below. These are a great way to reflect on the year and think about the new class you are going into. Which activity will you try today? If you would like to finish reading Holes, I will keep the PDF on the class webpage for you to finish the book and find out what happens!

Maths: This week, we are extending our learning on time! Can you have a go at the activity attached below on finding out how much time has passed? You will need to use a number line to help you! The bronze, silver and gold activities will be on the class webpage for you to download.

Cedar class learning for 13 JUL 2020

English: LO: to write a letter.

This week we are going to be completing some tasks in English which will help you prepare for September. I will suggest a different activity each day and give your some pointers for how to complete each one.

Today, I would like you to use your letter writing skills to write a letter to your new teacher to introduce yourself. If you are currently in year 3 you will need to write your letter to Miss Brown and will be in Rowan class next year. If you are currently in year 4 you will need to write to Miss Beaumont and will be in Elm class next year.

Think about the language you will need to use in your letter; this should be more formal than informal. What qualities of yours do you think are important to share with your new teacher? Are there any things about you which your new teacher might not know from just looking at you?

Maths: LO: to create a definition poster for ‘time’.

This week we will be revisiting the topic of time. Today, I would like you to create a definition poster for the word ‘time’. Just like the ones you have created before, write ‘time’ in the middle and then write a definition of what the word means. Fill the rest of the poster with pictures and words related to time, and write definitions for these related words as well. Below are some words to help you out.

Key words: A.M., P.M., minute, hour, second, o’clock, past, to, days, months, years, decades, analogue, digital, 12 hour time, 24 hour time.
