Rowan Class
Welcome to Rowan Class
Welcome to the Rowan Class page. Have a look at our class newsletter to see an overview of what we will be learning this term.
This term, our theme is finding freedom. Rowan class have brainstormed their ideas and generated questions linked to this theme to guide our learning journey.
What we’re reading in class:
Our current class novel is The World’s Worst Pets by David Walliams. In our literacy lessons, we will be reading The Undefeated by Kwame Alexander and Tar Beach by Faith Ringgold.
To promote reading for pleasure, the children will have an opportunity to contribute to our class reading scrapbook over the academic year. Each week a member of the class will be chosen to take the scrapbook folder home and create a page based on their favourite book. Please encourage your child to be creative with their page and enjoy the opportunity for book talk.
In addition to school reading books, we want to encourage children to read a variety of books. The Year 4 booklist below covers a range of genres and themes which have been matched to the age, developmental stage and interest level of children in Year 4.
Muddy Moments:
Please ensure that your child has a change of footwear in school, as we will continue to take elements of our lessons outdoors throughout the term. Outdoor lessons may be linked to any subject, however, an example for Maths may involve creating place value grids and number lines using bamboo canes and natural resources.
This term, we have taken PSHE outside to explore our feelings as we begin our learning journey in Year 4. We have also made place value charts, using natural materials, to strengthen our understanding of key concepts taught in maths.
TT Rockstars:
Please encourage your child to access TTRockstars on a regular basis to support their times tables fluency. If your child has difficulty accessing TTRockstars or has forgotten their username/password, please do let me know.
If you have any questions or concerns, you can catch me at the classroom door at the beginning or end of school. For those longer discussions, please don’t hesitate to book an appointment to talk over the phone or in person.
